These three movies examine the relevance of martial arts to everyday life. Even though they are all comedies, they may change your perspective on the value and meaning of kung fu.
Shaolin Soccer [IMDB]
Stephen Chow’s classic film shows the secret applications of Shaolin wushu: baking, tree trimming, and parallel parking.
Arahan [IMDB]
Korea’s answer to the Hong Kong hit Shaolin Soccer. The first five minutes of this movie made me laugh out loud; the rest was good too.
The Art of Fighting [IMDB]
An amusing illustration of the martial art maxim: courage first, power second, technique third.
Have you seen these movies? Did you like them? Would you add any to the list?
I really liked Shaolin Soccer. A bit out there with Kung Fu being applied to soccer (kinda weird), but a great movie. Haven’t seen the other two yet.
