The martial arts haiku tournament has officially ended. Thank you to all the participants. Here are some of my favorite haiku from among the submissions:
A blade is a tool
That can do more than the rock.
This is my true goal.
– by Taiji.quest.ion
Sweat stinging my eyes,
so I close them and see more
than ever before.
– by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – Steve’s BJJ Log
Kano once said that
What one good man can learn well
He’ll teach a hundred…
– by Mokuren Dojo
Other participants also made good contributions, but because they didn’t follow the rules, they are not eligible for the prize.
Bassho’s frog went plop!
and never heard from again.
A snapping turtle
Betrayed by whimsy
Fall to the truth of physics
There just is no chi
They have a founder
who could convince people to
fall down on command.
My Kung Fu is bad
My Haiku are more worse
I should learn to golf
With the help of a random number generator, I have selected a tournament winner: Congratulations to Patrick Parker! Please contact me with your mailing address, so I can send your Ninja Play Set.
Although the contest is over, feel free to share any other martial arts poetry you have lying around. Better late than never!
I can honestly say that this is the first time my name, the word “favorite” and the word “poetry” have ever been used in the same paragraph. 🙂
Thanks for sharing these with me:) I love haiku!
